ESTABLISHMENT OF A
COMPANION RELATIONSHIP WITH INDIA

WHEREAS, Bishop Gary Wollersheim, along with a contingent of others from the Northern Illinois Synod, will be traveling to Tranquebar, in southeast India to honor the 300^th Anniversary celebration of the Lutheran faith in India on July 2-9, 2006; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Illinois Synod, through the gift of a longstanding companionship with the Arusha Diocese in Tanzania, Africa, has been blessed by a deepening of our mutual understanding and the establishment of a profound relationship that is based on proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Illinois Synod by virtue of its mission statement is fully committed to Making Christ Known throughout the world; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Northern Illinois Synod Global Subcommittee be encouraged to work with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Global Mission and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church-India to explore establishing a companion relationship with Lutherans in India.
