COMMITTEE STATUS FOR GLOBAL MISSION 

WHEREAS, the Northern Illinois Synod Global Mission Subcommittee, part of the Outreach Committee, in the last ten years has expanded Northern Illinois Synod Global interests through increased Northern Illinois Synod involvement with our Synod Companion, the Arusha Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania in several ways including:

• Involvement of Northern Illinois Synod members and funds in the continuing growth of Mwangaza Partnership for Education;
• Partnering more than 24 Northern Illinois Synod Congregations with Tanzanian Companion Congregations;
• Encouraging Women of the ELCA sponsorship of Tanzanian students and visitors;
• Supporting the new Selian Hospital in Arusha with dollars from Northern Illinois Synod congregations and material from Trinity Hospital, Quad-Cities;
• Encouraging for the new AIDS Children Orphanage in Arusha;
• Supported many visits of Northern Illinois Synod members and youth groups to Tanzania and of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania members to the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Illinois Synod may establish new partnering relationships in places such as India, Laos, or in South America; and

WHEREAS, the Global Mission Subcommittee is already being funded through the Outreach Committee budget; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Northern Illinois Synod Council and Bishop explore the possibility of raising the Global Mission Subcommittee, currently under the Outreach Committee, to full committee status at the Northern Illinois Synod Assembly in 2007.
