Dear Pastor(s) and Youth Leader(s):

Below are the registration materials for Synod Youth Assembly to be held concurrent with the Northern Illinois Synod Assembly, June 16-17, 2006 at Augustana College.

Synod Youth Assembly has several purposes: 

• As the governing body for our synod's Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) it is the place where officers of the Northern Illinois Synod LYO board are elected.

• It helps develop leadership by introducing youth to the various synodical and churchwide ministries of the church as they are represented at Synod Assembly, and by giving youth an opportunity to have input into the synod's life and ministry.

• It provides a time for personal spiritual formation and making new friends. This year the our focus is service in the world.  Participants will not only learn about service but will participate in both simulation and real opportunities to serve others

Worship, Bible studies, music and legislative debates focusing on issues important to youth as part of both the Synod Assembly and on our own will help us to achieve our multiple goals.

Each congregation is invited to send incoming freshmen through graduating seniors. Congregations should designate one male and one female voting representative to the Youth Assembly. All youth delegations must be accompanied by a responsible adult, 21 years of age or older, who is able to participate in the activities of the Synod Youth Assembly. (This means, not someone who is also a voting member of the Northern Illinois Synod Assembly.)

The event registration fee of $70 covers all housing, meals, and programming. Registration is due by Monday, May 1, and must be accompanied by:

• payment in full,

• a copy of the completed registration/parental consent form (youth leader retains the original), and

• a signed covenant from each participant.

Please send all your Synod Youth Assembly registrations, both youth and adult, together in one envelope to Jonette Knock, Northern Illinois Synod, Augustana College, Rock Island, IL 61201-2296. One check for the entire group should be made payable to the Northern Illinois Synod.  Participants will receive a confirmation letter with maps and details before the Assembly

Onsite check-in will take place in the lobby area of Erickson Residence Hall, 3151 12^th Avenue, Rock Island on Friday, June 16, 8:00--9:00 a.m. Erickson is air-conditioned and linens and towels are provided, except participants need to bring their own pillow. We also suggest bringing personal toiletries, a Bible, pen/pencil, and a notebook.

Synod Youth Assembly will dismiss immediately following the close of the Synod Assembly, approximately 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 17.
