In-kind offering Gift cards to Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walgreens, and CVS will be collected at the 2007 Synod Assembly for this year’s in-kind offering. Please put your gift card(s) in an envelope, and mark the total value on the outside of the envelope. These envelopes will be collected near the registration desk in Centennial Hall during the assembly. The gift cards will be sent to Camp Victor, the recovery effort started by Christus Victor Lutheran Church in cooperation with Lutheran Disaster Response. Christus Victor Church, located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, became a hurricane disaster response center for communities along the Gulf Coast from Pascagoula to Ocean Springs to Biloxi within days of Hurricane Katrina making landfall in August 2005. The hurricane caused damage to thousands of homes along the Mississippi coast. They were damaged, destroyed or made uninhabitable. There continues to be a great need to provide interim services to hurricane victims (food and supplies) and to aid in the clean-up, repair, and reconstruction of damaged homes. During the months that followed Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the church's walls were stretched trying to accommodate the regular church services and activities, providing office space for case manage-ment, and housing and feeding thousands of volunteers. In June
2006, they moved their operations to Camp Victor, a new facility
inside a former factory. The Camp Victor
is a ministry of Lutheran Social Services Disaster Response and
Lutheran Disaster Response. |
