We are honored to have as our ELCA Representative
Mr. Carlos Peņa, vice president of the ELCA, the highest elected
lay position in the church. A businessman from Galveston, Texas,
Peņa Peņa has extensive experience in the church. He was president
of First Lutheran Church, Galveston, from 1989 to 1995, and was vice
president of the ELCA Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod from 1991 to
1995. In 1993, he was elected to serve a six-year term on the ELCA
Church Council and was on the council’s Executive Committee. Mr.
Peņa will bring greetings to the assembly and answer questions. He
will also host a breakfast forum on Saturday. |

The Reverend Dr. Mark Allan Powell,
Professor of New Testament, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, OH,
will be our Bible study leader. Dr. Powell is an internationally
known theologian and Bible scholar who has achieved popular appeal
among Christian groups for his work in spiritual formation and
Christian identity. Dr. Powell will host lunch forums on Friday and
Saturday. |
