Information about the Harvest Festival for the Southwest-West Conferences Foods Resource Bank Growing Project
The congregations of Southwest and West Conferences, Northern Illinois Synod, invite you to our Foods Resource Bank Growing Project Harvest Festival. The celebration will be held on Sunday, September 28th at Calmer Farms, 550 North Knox Road, Alpha, IL, located just south of Alpha off Route 150. Our Harvest Festival begins with a light lunch of pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookies and beverages served from 12:30-1:30 PM. Field demonstrations are scheduled from 1:00 to 3:00 with the Harvest Festival Worship Service at 2:00. There will be corn-picking, combine rides, hayrack field tours, and much more! Our host, Marion Calmer, is graciously providing us with a heated/air conditioned Meeting Center at the site. In case of rain the worship service can be held in this building. COME AND SEE! Learn about our stewardship of soil, seed, water, and power. Learn more about agricultural production of food. See how donations given by farmers, individuals, congregations, VBS children, WELCA organizations, and Thrivent come together to help the people in our Machokos Development Program in Kenya. Offerings received at the celebration will be matched through the Mercer County Thrivent Chapter. Guests expected to be at the Festival include the Deans and Bishop’s Assistants of our conferences, and Joan Fumetti and Marv Baldwin from the Foods Resource Bank Organization. We ask for your help in publicizing this celebration. Bulletin inserts and posters will be coming early in September. Please save the date on your calendars.
