Theme verses:

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8 1

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

even keelMaintaining an “Even Keel”

This passage reminds me of advice a friend gave to me years ago: don’t get too high when things go well and don’t get too low when things go badly.

There are times in all our lives for everything cited in the passage as well as many other events both good and bad. It’s advice that can be easier said than done but I’ve tried to maintain an even keel through the hills and valleys of my life.

The one constant throughout all the highs and lows of our lives is the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He is there with us in times of great joy and times of great sorrow. He is there to give thanks to when things go right in our lives and He is there to comfort, forgive and assure us when things don’t go as well. Having Jesus as our rock and our foundation makes maintaining an even keel an exercise in faith, love and hope.

Prayer:

Dear God, we give thanks that you are our constant companion in life and wait patiently for us to turn to you in both good times and bad. Help us to feel your presence in all that we do and to give thanks for the joys and happiness of our lives and as a source of healing for our sorrows and fears. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Risen Lord, Amen.
