Lenten Devotion for Wednesday, February 24

Today's lessons:

Psalm 17
Job 1:1-22
Luke 21:34—22:6

Author:

Jan Butterfield

Synod Council member

Theme verses:

Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell on the ground and worshipped. He said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there; the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.’ Job 1:20-21

Meditation:

heartbreakJob was a model of faith. Even though he lost his possessions and his family, he never wavered in his faith. He grieved for his losses, but he did not blame God. Job acknowledged God by worshipping Him and blessing His name.

When heartbreaks and loss come our way, how will we react? I’m not sure anyone can say for sure what they will do until they are placed in that position. But, we can trust in God that we don’t have to face them alone. God will never abandon us.

In times of need, may our faith be as unwavering as Job’s. May we refrain from placing blame and, instead, seek comfort and strength through worshipping God and blessing His name.

Prayer:

Gracious God, as we face the trials that confront us throughout our life, help us to remain steadfast and strong in our faith to you. Thank you for always standing by us in our times of need.  Amen
