Theme verses:

1 Corinthians 10:11-13 - These things happened to them to serve as an example, and they were written down to instruct us, on whom the ends of the ages have come.So if you think you are standing, watch out that you do not fall. No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.

Meditation:

giftIt strikes me that we are given a gift in these words, in the stories of our brothers and sisters in ages past.  We can learn from what they said and did, and in God’s response.

Likewise, we continue to be living examples of the continuing story of God’s people.  Our stories may not be written down to be read by future brothers and sisters in Christ thousands of years from now, but our stories parallel theirs, even as they continue the story of God’s faithfulness.

Re-read this words and cling to them:  “No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone.  God is faithful.”

Each of us has trials and problems. For some the burdens are greatly visible and for others they are more hidden. The trials ebb and flow though at times they may seem to pile into something so great that they seem insurmountable.

But hear the words again:  “God is faithful.”  We know that, as in ages past, God will walk with us through these times, just as he will walk with the generations yet to come.  We cling to his faithfulness, knowing that we are a part of the story of His people – past, present and future.  Thanks be to God.

Prayer:

Gracious and loving God, we give praise and thanks to you this day that we are never alone.  Thank you for your faithfulness to those who have gone before us, for your faithfulness to us today, and for your promise of faithfulness to the generations yet to come.  Thank you for your promises and love and for walking with us each day.  Amen.
