Meditation:
The bumper sticker read, “If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention!” Avid fans of the news know all too well the many issues faced by the inhabitants of our world. Those who are paying attention to the news know that local issues intersect with regional, national, and global issues into a dizzying spin that often stumps even the brightest analysts.
Individuals and congregations alike risk being overwhelmed by the news and information that threatens to paralyze even the most ambitious mission. There are several options in the face of this threat: 1) turn inward and away from the world and our mission; 2) become convinced of our own “right” and “duty” condemning all ideas we do not agree with; or, 3) remember that “the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
Remembering that the battle is God’s can keep us focused on our mission of proclaiming victory over sin, death, and evil in Jesus’ name.
Keeping in mind that the battle is God’s and not our own prevents us from trying to save the world and helps us proclaim that the Savior is already at work among us. |
