Lenten Devotion for Friday, March 12

Today's lessons:

Psalm 32

Joshua 4:14-24

2 Corinthians 5:6-15

Author:

Rev. Tom A. Larsen

Senior Pastor, Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg

Part-time Assistant to the Bishop for the Southwest Conference

Theme verses:

Psalm 32:5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Meditation: faucet

I had determined that the mesh screen filter on my bathroom sink faucet needed to be removed and cleaned. Even though home maintenance is not my strong suit, it looked like something I could handle.

But, the filter wouldn’t come off with only finger pressure. When I tried the large wrench, it came free…along with unnamed parts of the interior of the faucet.

A friend came over to review the situation. He told me that the faucet was broken. Knowing me well, he also told me that I could not fix it.

I received the judgment with relief. Now I knew that I needed to call on someone more powerful/talented than I to fix what was broken.

Prayer:

Help us to admit our brokenness to ourselves and to you. Move us to rely on you to fix and heal and save. Amen.
