Meditation:
For the psalmist the picture is bleak. All who seek after God have fallen away and there is no one who does good.
Economic injustice is spread throughout the land. The rich eat their fill of bread and the poor are forgotten and consumed. God’s justice will cause terror for the ungodly, they will be put to shame and their bones scattered.
I tremble as I venture to imagine the psalmist’s world. And then I realize it is as close as the evening news.
Injustice in government and business. Poverty and struggle for food, water, healthcare, education, and employment are daily realities for people in our zip codes and in countries around the world.
In this Lenten season as we prepare for Easter’s baptismal waters, we are mindful God’s steadfast love.
Even as we face the great injustices in our world today and the brokenness within our own being, we trust that God’s deliverance has come for us in Jesus’ death and resurrection as the first fruits of God’s deliverance of all people and indeed all creation.
We join the psalmist in hope for this day when God will restore the fortunes of God’s people. This will be a day of great rejoicing. The final harvest will be complete and the day will be a Sabbath to our God. We will join John the seer in singing heavenly praise and adoration.
Indeed salvation belongs to our God. |
