Meditation:
Not just any “Day”.
No, the capitalization of “Day” in this section from Hebrews is certainly not a typographical error. The author, first believed to be Paul, but now scholars are unsure, is referring to a very special day, the day when we will be united with our Lord. That Day certainly deserves capitalization.
The author was also kind enough to provide directions, a roadmap if you will, and notes that if you follow this map you will indeed reach that Day. So, using our GPS (Gospel-Prayer-System), let’s follow along.
First of all, we can’t even get on the road without the blood of Jesus. It was through the gift of his life to us that he opened the ‘curtain to eternal life” and for us to even get on the road we must approach this road with “a true heart in full assurance of faith.” I wish the GPS in my car provided the same kind of assurance.
Then we have to wash the car. “Our hearts need to be sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water,” the latter being a reference to our baptism. This Gospel-Prayer-System will not fail and we need to hold fast to the directions “without wavering” notes the author.
Additionally, we need to help others on the way as well by meeting with them frequently and encouraging them through worship and prayer. Reminding ourselves that only through the blood of Jesus can we even be on the road at all, we can then approach that destination; the Day we have all been waiting for. |
