On August 4 – 5, 2006, the
Lutheran Association of Christian Educators (LACE) is
sponsoring three interregional gatherings based on the theme
“Together in Faith: Building Community and Living Out Our
Faith.” Christian educators, whether volunteer or
professional, play an essential role in the life of the
congregations. Through the educational process, they can
foster community in a variety of ways, ranging from simply
providing opportunity for relationship-building within the
programs to using the latest technology at our disposal to
connect people. LACE’s intent with the gatherings is to
provide an avenue for dynamic interaction between Christian
educators on this topic and a place where participants can
have their own faith fostered. The conferences are hosted by
Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina;
Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio; and St. Andrews
Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. All three are
underwritten by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Cost is
$50 for LACE members and $60 for non-LACE members.

The Clergy Clinic introduces participants to key concepts of family systems theory, provides opportunity to explore one’s own family of origin dynamics, and includes time for presenting case studies from one’s ministry setting for coaching and consultation. The clinic also includes input from Lombard Mennonite Peace Center staff and video input by Murray Bowen, the father of family systems theory, and Edwin Friedman, who led the way in helping clergy understand the congregation as an emotional system.
