for our partner in social ministry, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, and for the staff and clients of their Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment program. We know how devastating substance abuse can be, especially in the life of a young person. We ask for your presence in the lives of all young people dealing with substance abuse, that they might have strength and courage in fighting their addictions and be able to find support in their communities. We also ask your blessing upon those who are working with young people through their substance abuse treatment, that they might also find strength and courage through your grace.

Those not named here who are hospitalized or otherwise need our prayers.

Send prayer requests to karin@nisynod.org.

Autumn is usually a time to focus on stewardship
Would you like to improve financial stewardship in your congregation this year? "How to Improve Financial Stewardship: A Guide for Congregations" is just the resource for you! This handy, Web-based resource includes advice on choosing leaders, selecting response methods, developing communications and giving thanks for commitments. There's even a chapter on "Pie and Prayer" ...

October is a busy month!
Lutheran World Federation Sunday is October 1, with a theme of "Strengthening Unity, Celebrating Diversity." On another Sunday, congregations are encouraged to light a candle and pray for persons with mental illness and their families as part of the "All-Lutheran Candle Lighting for Mental Illness." It's also the month when we commemorate St. Luke the physician, and many congregations offer healing services, such as the new rites from Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

On October 15, thousands of people around the world will take a moment to STAND UP against poverty to set an official Guinness World Record. This moment is part of the ELCA’s ONE Lutheran Campaign for the Millennium Development Goals. Find out more at www.elca.org/advocacy/one

Augsburg Fortress is listening! Many of you have asked them to send ideas for improving your ministries that are customized to your unique interest areas. Sign up for the FREE Augsburg Fortress eNewsletters or eUpdates of your choice.
