Everyone is invited to the Synod-wide Reformation/Ordination service on Sunday, October 29 at Immanuel, Rock Falls. All pastors and interns are invited to vest and process.

The October Engaged Encounter weekend has been canceled, but is hoped to be rescheduled in March, 2007.
Fall Seminary Sampler Weekend, October 28-30, 2006. Foster care can be a challenging experience for any child, but can especially be so for a teenager. We ask for your presence and guidance in the lives of all children in a foster care situation, and for foster parents and all those working to shape and maintain a positive, supportive environment for them.

Take a stand against poverty!
In 1999 the ELCA adopted "Sufficient, Sustainable Livelihood for All." In September 2000 the largest gathering of world leaders in history committed their nations to a new global partnership to reduce extreme poverty. This "Year of Action" in achieving the Millennium Development Goals, Lutherans will STAND UP on Sunday, October 15, to be counted in support of the MDGs. Resources available for worship that day include "Prayers of the People."

Many Women of the ELCA units and congregations are gathering a Thankoffering this time of year. We invite you to use the new Thankoffering service now available on our Web site or write your own service. Offering boxes and envelopes are available through Augsburg Fortress.
Since the beginning of the organization, Women of the ELCA has awarded $555,000 in scholarships to Evangelical Lutheran Church in America women who are returning to school after a break in their education. Application forms for 2007–2008 school year scholarships are available on our Web site. Completed applications are due in the churchwide Women of the ELCA office February 15, 2007.
“No Easy Answers: Engaging Challenging Texts,” the 2007 leadership conference at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, will explore these questions through lectures, workshops and dialog. Mark Hanson, Presiding Bishop of the ELCA and Ralph Klein, Christ Seminary-Seminex Professor of Old Testament at LSTC, will deliver keynote lectures addressing the Church’s need for deeper biblical study. A variety of workshops will be led by faculty members and parish pastors. The conference will take place on February 12-13, 2007, at the Lutheran School of Theology, 1100 E. 55th Street, Chicago.
