Giving thanks for called leaders
The Church has always had gifted and called leaders - from the first apostles on - and has always given thanks for all who answer those calls as pastors, teachers, deaconesses, diaconal ministers and associates in ministry. One way to express that thanks and support present and future leaders is to give to the ELCA Fund for Leaders in Mission in honor of someone you love and respect, and send them an e-card to express your feelings.

Since the youth gathering ...
what have you been doing? A new ELCA Youth Ministry site features "What people are reading and browsing these days." About a dozen people engaged in youth ministry are currently submitting their favorite books, Web sites, etc. - even movies - that they find interesting, helpful, inspiring or provocative. The list will change continuously, and the contributors' list is expected to grow as time goes on.

The ELCA is encouraging congregations to participate in the worldwide "STAND UP" effort being sponsored by the Millennium Campaign wherein ELCA congregations have the opportunity to help set an official Guinness World Record on October 15th by standing up for a moment during worship. Visit the ELCA's advocacy Web site to learn more about how congregations can participate in this worldwide event.
