The 2007 Northern Illinois Synod Women Leaders Retreat will be held January 29-30 at Bishop Lane Retreat Center in Rockford. The event will begin with noon meal on Monday, January 29 and continues through noon meal on Tuesday, January 30. A brochure will be available soon with more information.
 

Everyone is encouraged to attend one of few remaining 2006 Northern Illinois Synod Mission Gatherings. The last gatherings will be:  Tuesday, November 14 (NW Conference) First, Freeport (map); and Thursday, November 16 (W Conference) Salem, Moline (map).  Find out more HERE>>


The "Kids, Money, & Stuff" workshop scheduled for November 11 has been postponed to Saturday, January 27. Watch Walking Together for more information when it becomes available.

 

At the Professional Leaders Conference, Bishop Wollersheim encouraged leaders to think about how we best extend hospitality in worship to the visitors among us. Come November 11, 10-1 for a workshop on "Worship, Hospitality and Evangelism" at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Morris. Council members, Worship or Evangelism Committees, Pastor and staff are all welcome. Cost is $12 and includes lunch. Questions? Pastor Diane Dardon will be installed as Campus Pastor at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 9 pm at the ministry center located at 401 Normal Rd in DeKalb. Bishop Wollersheim will preach. Everyone is invited.

 

The next Evangelical Lutheran Worship Introduction Workshop will be Saturday, December 2 at St. John, Joliet,. The rest of the schedule is HERE>>. Register for each event by noon of the previous Monday by contacting June Cain at 815-964-9934. Checks should be made payable to the Northern Illinois Synod, with "ELW Workshop" in the memo line. The Northern Illinois Synod Diakonia Program will hold their annual retreat on January 20, 2007 at Christ Lutheran in Belvidere. The retreat/workshop, entitled "Spiritual Formation for the 21st Century", will be led by The Rev. Eric W. Gritsch, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus at Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary. He will use his new catechism, "A Handbook for Christian Life in the 21st Century" as text. Anyone wishing to attend can contact Doug Liston at dliston@premmag.com  for further information.

"Davey and Goliath's Snowboard Christmas," a one-hour special, will air on Hallmark Channel, Sunday, December 17 at 7:00 a.m. (Eastern/Pacific), 6:00 a.m. (Central), and "Joy to the World," a one-hour celebration of worship in ELCA congregations, airs on Hallmark Channel, Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24 at 9:00 a.m. (Eastern/Pacific) / 8:00 a.m. (Central).

You are cordially invited to see and hear The Reverend Mark S. Hanson, Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Wallenberg Hall in the Denkmann Memorial Hall on the campus of Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, on Thursday, November 16. The free event begins with a brief worship service at 9 a.m., followed by Bishop Hanson’s address. After the conclusion of his remarks, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
