Kids, Money & Stuff Train-the-Trainer Session Rescheduled to Saturday, January 27, 9am-noon. This is the only notice you will receive of the rescheduled event. What are your kids learning about money & "stuff"? Today’s culture might be giving the wrong message about the differences between needs and wants. God's Word and the leaders in your congregation teach a better way for living—and for giving. Kids, Money & Stuff is a six-hour shared retreat experience for adults and children. Participants will learn together through sharing, activities and games. All children and adults will have the opportunity to make commitments to personal giving, family giving and a group giving project.
The Train-the-Trainer session is for Pastors and Youth Ministry Leaders who want to lead this retreat. This three-hour training session provides the materials and experience to lead this workshop in your congregation or conference. Materials will include a Leader Guide, Participant Book, Video and more. Come to the training on Saturday, January 27, 2007 from 9:00 am to Noon at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1013 Franklin Grove Rd., Dixon, IL. The cost is $185 per congregation for up to three participants. Please register with June Cain in the Synod Office (815-964-9934) as soon as possible but no later than Wednesday, January 17. If you have questions, please contact Pastor Jeff Clements (815-964-9934) or Mr. Keith Mundy (913-897-0893). We look forward to growing young stewards in your congregation!

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) will offer two winter global mission programs in 2007, and one significant Global Mission Event in July. All three events feature worship, music and learning, with emphasis on how the ELCA can "accompany" Lutherans in mission throughout the globe. An "ELCA Global Mission Festival" will be held Jan. 26-28 at St. John Lutheran Church, Winter Park, Fla. The following weekend, Feb. 2-3, an "ELCA Global Mission Fiesta" is planned at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Phoenix. This summer an ELCA Global Mission Event is to be held July 19-22 at The Ohio State University, Columbus. The winter events are new, said Sunitha Mortha, associate director for Global Mission Events and mission interpretation, ELCA Global Mission. Both are designed to be smaller and shorter in length than the traditional Global Mission Event, and focus on regional versus national participation, she said.

Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), in partnership with Wheat Ridge Ministries, Itasca, Ill., is offering financial assistance to Lutheran churches to encourage the development of new programs and services for immigrants and refugees. Good Samaritan seed grants will be awarded to congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod or the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Applicant congregations will be expected to contribute at least 25 percent of the project cost, either through cash or in-kind support. Funding priority will be given to projects that demonstrate at least one of the following services to immigrant communities: social ministry projects, joint projects between community members and new residents, public education or advocacy, and leadership development within the ethnic groups served. Grants will not be made to individuals or church agencies, nor will they be made to support refugee reception and placement activities, refugee resettlement programs or projects of evangelism. Interested applicants may download the application packet or review grant guidelines at www.lirs.org . For more information on the Good Samaritan grant program, please contact Pam Bloom, LIRS Senior Consultant for Organizational Capacity Building, at 410/230-2875 or pbloom@lirs.org .
