A special adaptation of The Gift of the Magi,
including both dialogue and music, will be presented at
Zion, Rockford on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at
4:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Jodi Beach, prominent
local musician and vocalist, and Roger DeSchepper, who
has a strong background in music and acting, will
present the program. The $5.00 cost includes the program
and luscious desserts. Payment may be made at the door
or sent to Judy Lindstrom, Zion Lutheran Church, 925
Fifth Avenue, Rockford IL 61104. The public is invited
to attend. People may enter the church at the
glass-enclosed entrance on Fifth Avenue. Parking is
available in the Amcore lot across the street.

The family of Ms. Pat VanBlair (WELCA Synod Treasurer) who passed away January 4. Her funeral will be Tuesday, January 9, at First Lutheran Church in Rock Island Pastor Vernon Tweedt (Plano) hospitalized in Aurora Nathanial Schlung, pre-maturely-born grandson of Judi Rooney (Hospice of NE Illinois, Barrington) and son of Mary & Tim Schlung Tom Delehanty, father of Pastor Bill Dahlberg (Christ, Stockton), hospitalized in Rockford Brenda Sisson and St. Paul, Sterling as she was installed there on Sunday, January 7 as Associate In Ministry for Youth and Family. Kevin Rogers, NIS LYO President, as he travels with youth, young adults, and adults from the ELCA January 6-20 as a part of Ubuntu University 2 to Mexico City, then to Cuernavaca, Morelos and Tlapa, Guerrero. Pastoral Letter for Martin Luther King Day This 21st anniversary of Martin Luther King Day is also the fifth anniversary of Churches Uniting in Christ, a group formed to "express their unity in Christ by living more closely together and working together to combat racism in the church and in society." ELCA's presiding bishop has signed a CUIC pastoral letter marking the occasion, and is asking that it be read in ELCA congregations on Sunday, January 14.

Younan will speak at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago on January 25 at 7:00 p.m. His presentation, “The Future for Palestinian Christians,” will take place in room 350. It is free and open to the public. Bishop Younan received the 2001 Finnish Peace Prize from the Finnish Christian Peace Movement and the Human Rights Award from the United Nations Association. He is an active member of the Lutheran World Federation serving as a voting member, advisor to the LWF Council, and member of the youth committee. Younan is also vice president of the board of trustees of the Ecumenical Institute, Strasbourg, France. He works with the Middle East Council of Churches, the World Council of Churches, and the International Christian Committee. Younan earned degrees from Luther Opisto College and the University of Helsinki in Finland. He was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in Jerusalem in 1976. He and his family reside in Jerusalem.
