Are you considering theological education? The eight seminaries of the ELCA invite you to attend a free weekend visit during February, March or April, when you will attend classes with other prospective students, experience interaction between students and faculty, enjoy an evening or two in a dorm and spend some time relaxing with students who were at one time considering seminary life, attend worship with the students and faculty and understand why people so often use the word "community" when referring to ELCA seminaries.

February 25 is Bold Women's Day Women of the ELCA provides stories of bold women, ideas and resources to help all congregations celebrate women who act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ on February 25. Lutheran women who act boldly on their faith are everywhere and come from all walks of life. Most volunteer many hours for both their church and community, some in conspicuous and visible ways, others in quiet yet strong ways.

News from Other Organizations

Price and job security, energy and food security, regional and local security – all weigh heavily on our minds. This year’s Rural and Urban Life Gathering calls people from all walks of life to address those concerns together, Thursday and Friday, Feb. 1 and 2, at Shalom Retreat Center in Dubuque. A third annual winter farmers' market benefit sale will conclude the Rural and Urban Life Gathering in the parish hall of St. Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque, noon to 5:30 p.m. The public is invited. Overnight accommodation at Shalom, 101 Davis St., is available. Go to www.cclpmidwest.org or call Holly Deschenes, 608-234-2696, or email Tony Ends at scotchhillfarm@wekz.net for details. Churches’ Center for Land and People is a licensed, 501 (c )(3) nonprofit organization at 4200 County Hwy M, Middleton, WI 53562. You can also contact Ends at 608 897-4288.

Here's a chance to Yahoo for Lutheran Disaster Response. How many times a week do you use an Internet search engine like Yahoo!, Google, or Ask.com? For many people, the answer is probably "A whole bunch." What if Lutheran Disaster Response earned a penny every time you performed such a search? Now it's possible. www.GoodSearch.com  is a new search Web site that donates half of its revenue (about one penny per search) to the charity of the searcher's choice. = You use it just as you would any search engine, and GoodSearch is powered by Yahoo! so you are guaranteed good search results. To start using GoodSearch, go to www.goodsearch.com . You will see two boxes -- the search box and a box that says "Who do you GoodSearch for?" Simply enter in "LDR" and start searching. You can even download a GoodSearch toolbar ( www.goodsearch.com/toolbar ) for your Internet browser so that you have a search function always at your fingertips. A penny for every search may not seem like much... but imagine if 1,000 people searched twice each day using GoodSearch. Over the course of a year, LDR would make over $7000. GoodSearch makes it easy to support your favorite non-profit organization... and all you have to do is something that you already do anyway.
