The Northern Illinois Synod and its partner synod, Lower Susquehanna Synod, have teamed together to create a series of Lenten devotionals for you. Please visit www.nisynod.org/lent2007 every day this Lenten season and click on the current day to read that devotion. It is our prayer that these devotions will strengthen your faith on your Lenten journey. Special thanks goes to the devotional writers from the Northern Illinois Synod. Their timeliness and their willingness to be a part of this partner endeavor are both greatly appreciated.

ELCA News & Events

The Tenth Biennial Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America will be held at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois, August 6-12, 2007. A thousand volunteers are needed to greet guests at the airport, assist with registration, serve as pages in the assembly hall at Navy Pier, usher, assist with transportation, monitor the assembly hearing rooms, and in countless other ways see that voting members and visitors are made to feel comfortable and welcome in Chicago. Please sign up at www.mcselca.org under "Highlights," or at the ELCA Churchwide Assembly page at www.elca.org/assembly where you can also watch a video that welcomes participants to the city and synod. A list of frequently asked questions is also online at http://www.elca.org/assembly/. If people have questions about volunteering, they can send an e-mail to ELCA2007@gmail.com.

It's time to order "eco-palms"! Religion and ecology are converging amid awareness of the more than 300 million palm fronds harvested each year for U.S. consumption alone - most of them for Palm Sunday. Lutheran World Relief is partnering with other groups in a palm certification project to help build support for "eco-palms" by introducing Lutheran parishes to this social and environmental justice project that ensures palm harvesters earn a fair income and palms are harvested in an environmentally sustainable way.

Supporting congregations There's a new face on Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission (EOCM) - the unit that brings together ELCA churchwide ministries that support congregations in their calls to be faithful, welcoming and generous! Find resources for evangelism, prayer, Christian education, stewardship, culture-specific and Spanish language programs, leadership for outreach, mission partners/founders/ builders, rural and urban ministry, etc.

Check out the new Mosaic video titled: The Holy Spirit.  From creation to Pentecost to our world today, the third person of the trinity blows into our lives like a divine wind, inspiring, prompting and leading us to Jesus Christ. Discover what the Bible, Martin Luther and ordinary Christians have to say about the Holy Spirit. Learn how the Holy Spirit moves throughout the church in homeless shelters, revival services and a creative, emerging ministry in the most un-churched part of North America. Use this resource and an enclosed guide in adult education, Bible study or small group settings. This DVD is a useful way to introduce a foundation of the Christian faith. $19.95 including shipping.
