March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This observance reminds us to recognize people with disabilities as valuable, contributing members of our communities. "People with developmental disabilities desire to be involved in their communities as neighbors, friends and co-workers, contributing through their talents and abilities," said Dr. David A. Jacox, CEO of Mosaic. "Our communities are strengthened by their gifts." Throughout the month, many events are held across the country to recognize the abilities and talents of people with disabilities. Communities hold special events, civic organizations welcome guest speakers to discuss the field of disabilities, congregations include special litanies in their worship services, and schools provide educational programs for children. Mosaic provides individualized services, living options, work choices, spiritual nurture and advocacy to people with disabilities in more than 250 communities across 14 states and Great Britain through the work of more than 5,000 employees. Mosaic is an affiliated social ministry organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a member of Lutheran Services in America.
