The Northern Illinois Synod's Diakonia Program would like to extend an invitation to all members of the Northern Illinois Synod to attend the Diakonia Program's graduation program on July 14 at 2pm at Christ, Belvidere. Bishop Gary Wollersheim will preach. We will have 15 students this year graduating from our two-year program of adult lay education. This brings the total of graduates in the Northern Illinois Synod to 45. We would encourage all pastors who attend to vest and process (color of the day will be red).

Ready to Forgive: An African Story of Grace. The June issue of Mosaic, ELCA's video magazine, offers an African story of God’s amazing grace. Northern Uganda is at war. Those most affected, the Acholi people, endure rape, torture and child abduction. Thousands have died, others are missing, 2 million displaced. Despite all this, the Acholi people are ready to forgive. Use the video and handy study guide to explore the concept of reconciliation in Africa, but also at home.
Youth can help change the world one policy at a time! Meet the new Lutheran Youth Organization Board liaison to the ELCA Advocacy office, who has ideas about how youth can seek to love their neighbors in response to God’s love given them in Jesus Christ by caring for, standing with and serving people who are living in poverty and who are suffering, and working for public policies that advance justice, peace, human dignity and care for the earth.
