ELCA News & Events

2007 ELCA Global Mission Event, Columbus, July 19-22The ELCA Global Mission Event (GME) is July 19-22 at Ohio State University, Columbus.  The event will draw more than 2,000 people from the United States and around the world.  The theme for this year's event is "New Heaven and New Earth." The GME will feature 70 "Global University" sessions, global music and worship, general sessions and three-part Global University tracks.  Participants can choose from five program tracks that will offer extended sessions in the areas of asset mapping, interfaith dialogue, sustainable development, cross-cultural relationships and hunger connections.  The tracks will incorporate simulation games, lectures and small-group discussion

Thanks be to God! "Living in God's Amazing Grace: Thanks be to God!" has been the synod assembly theme for 2007, and Presiding Bishop Hanson's synod assembly video has been a popular part of those assemblies. The bishop shows how God is active in the world through the ELCA by going to places where this church, through generous mission support, is making a difference: Puerto Rico, the Gulf Coast, the Holy Land and elsewhere. You can view it online or order a copy on CD to use in your congregation.

Keep your leaders in the know! At this time of year many congregations are electing new leaders. It will be helpful to those new folks to make sure they are added to the congregational leadership directory (Form B) as soon as possible, so that they will begin receiving Seeds for the Parish and other appropriate information. It's easy to update the form on the Web, using your congregation I.D. number and the password sent with the annual report mailing earlier this year.

This week's front page features from The Lutheran magazine

I do not fight: Sickness isn't an enemy, it's a rooster's crow .... (Photo at left.)

Good sightseeing: City art exhibits offer variety of religious art.

Be still ... and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10).

Update: Joe Hartzler. Lutherans honor his 'courage.'

Also: Everything belongs to God.

Also: Paying attention to God.

Also: Have seminaries changed drastically?
