The Tenth Biennial Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was held at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois, August 6-11, 2007. Classes will be starting soon for the synod's lay education program, the Diakonia Program. Today's missional churches require a renewed, empowered and committed laity. Diakonia provides the educational tools required for empowering lay persons for ministry in today's world. Living Hope, Frankfort will host "Daniel's Window", an alternative Christian pop/rock band, on Sunday, September 9 at 6:00 pm. This is a concert for the whole family. Tickets are $7 in advance and $9 at the door. Children under 3 are free, but will still need a ticket. Seating is limited so please order your tickets early. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling Living Hope at 815.464.0101 or by downloading the order form at www.FrankfortChurch.com .
Mark your calendars and plan to attend one of this year's NI Synod Mission Gatherings which will be held in each conference this fall. Mission Gatherings are an excellent annual event of the synod which gives lay and rostered people a chance to come together with Bishop Wollersheim to talk about an important topic. This year we'll talk about taking care of your rostered leaders. Leaders who live a balanced life and care for their health and wellness are best able to pass on their faith and model healthy behaviors for others. Don't miss one of these great events. Invite your whole congregation. Each event will begin at 7 pm with registration at 6:30 pm.

You are invited to Mission Interpreter Training on September 29 beginning at 9:00 A.M. at St. John’s in Sterling. Fifty friendly faces are sought to spread the great stories of ministry in, with, and by the NIS. Mission Interpreters are faithful people interested in “getting the word out” to congregations and the public at large. Mission Interpreters are volunteers who have a heart for sharing the good news and speak occasionally as asked in congregations and to the media about NIS, the ELCA and related ministries. Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is currently accepting nominations for its Fourth Annual Ministry of Hope Award (2007). The award recognizes one ELCA congregation in each of the three Illinois synods for outstanding social ministry. The 2006 recipients of the award included: Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hinsdale; Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville; and Grace Lutheran Church in Champaign. Nominations of congregations may be made by anyone who is a part of LSSI, its volunteers and clients, or the broader church community, including pastors, church staff and church members. The nominations are due August 31, 2007. Zion, Belvidere is looking for a organist/choir director. This would be a part time position following AGO guidelines. This person would be organist for Sunday morning worship services, using ELW.
