Assistant to the Bishop and Stewardship Specialist, Pr. Jeffrey Clements' 3rd quarter stewardship thank you letter to congregations is online along with many more ideas for congregational stewardship.
Retreat features kinetic spirituality. The day retreat for rostered leaders on December 3 will emphasize spiritual growth through physical movement and touch. Aspects of the retreat will include “Stretch and Pray” exercises, a “Rabbinical Reading” that involves walking and guidance in “Slow Walk” spirituality. Provision will also be made to allow those at the retreat to walk the labyrinth, experience chair massage and hike in the woods. Free time will also allow for more tradition spiritual practices of reading, meditating and napping. This 9 am to 4 pm retreat will be held at the Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center and is sponsored by the Northern Illinois Synod’s Spiritual Formation Committee. On Saturday, February 16, 2008 the Greening of the Synod Task Force of the Social Ministry Committee will host a training event for congregational Green Teams offering practical and inspirational guidance and resources for the process of bringing "care of creation" into congregations. The event, under the leadership of David Rhoads (LSTC Director of the Green Congregation Program) will take place from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center, Oregon, IL. Anyone interested in "greening" your congregation is encouraged to attend. Congregational teams of 3-5 people would be ideal. There is no charge for the workshop. However, in order to adequately plan for set-up and food, please register your congregation and the approximate number of participants through Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center at 815-732-2220. Questions may be directed to LOMC or Pastor Don Knowles at 815-246-9642.
Zion, Rockford is hosting a Spanish language Fellowship event this Sunday afternoon Nov. 11 at 3 pm. Everyone is invited. Martin Cesneros will provide music and Mary Castro and an immigration lawyer will discuss immigration issues. Refreshment to follow.

Joyful Harvest, Johnsburg invites you to their 4th annual Jazz Christmas Service December 23 at 8:15 and 10:45 am. There will be a Jazz quartet drums, bass, guitar and saxophone. There will be a variety of Jazz styles: Bop, Swing, Latin etc. Students of Jazz and Pop will enjoy Christmas Carols with a new twist as will nonstudents, all are welcome.

Called To Be a Public Church: 2008 ELCA Voting and Civic Participation Guide is a resource guide to encourage, empower, and equip Lutherans to engage responsibly in the 2008 election cycle.
"Called To Be a Public Church" is intended to encourage congregations to participate in voter registration drives, voter mobilization campaigns, and poll monitoring. This guide also contains nonpartisan issue briefs on issues related to the ELCA social statements. This resource is now available to download from www.elca.org/advocacy/publicchurch/ . It will be available for order from Augsburg Fortress later this month.

LSTC announces dates for its three Youth in Mission programs, Serving Christ in the World, Beyond Belief, and Outdoor Ministry Ambassadors.
Serving Christ in the World will be held at LSTC, in Texas, and in Mexico City June 14 – July 6, 2008. Current high school sophomores and juniors may apply for this three-week intensive exploration of living out one’s faith in the world.
Beyond Belief, formerly a summer program, now offers year-round opportunities for high school youth groups to participate in service activities in Chicago.
To serve youth enrolled in outdoor ministry camps, in June, July and August 2008, Youth in Mission will send seminarians to ELCA Outdoor Ministry programs as ambassadors.

Urban youth workers, pastors, and seminarians will look at the gifts and challenges of urban youth ministry during a one-week intensive course at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, January 6 – 11, 2008. The Rev. Lawrence J. Clark, a veteran of urban youth ministry, and the Rev. Joy McDonald Coltvet will team teach “Urban Youth Ministry.” Guest speakers from urban ministry settings will share their experiences and insights throughout the week. The Divorce Dilemma - How do I deal? How do I heal? Dealing & Healing: Emotions! The second in a new series of Divorce Recovery Workshops Saturday, December 1, 10 am, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural Street, Rockford, Cost: $10. This 2-hour workshop will address the rollercoaster of emotions involved in divorce - the feelings of loss, anger, grief, and more - which can be magnified as the holiday season gets underway.
