The mission of the newly-formed Synod Green Team is to encourage the congregations, agencies and institutions of the Northern Illinois Synod to become "greener" communities by providing educational opportunities and resources for a) showing how faith and ecology are interrelated, and b) teaching pragmatic means of becoming "greener." They will hold an event Feb 16 at LOMC and a follow-up workshop at the Congregational Resourcing Event, Mar 8. Contact Pr. Don Knowles at immanuel15@juno.com and watch for more details.

The ELCA’s new health care and dependent daycare flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are a valuable benefit for you and your employee(s). Join Board of Pensions’ Brad Joern, Director of Health Products, and Cathy Broady, Health Care Project Coordinator, to learn about this new benefit and to get practical tips to help you administer it in a webinar on December 12, 2007 12:00 PM Central Time. Your questions, which will be accepted via the webinar, are welcomed and encouraged! If you would like to participate, please contact Emily Zellner at ezellner@elcabop.org  or 612-752-4136 by Dec. 11. A recording of this webinar will be posted on www.elcabop.org no later than Dec. 19.

Starting Jan. 1, interim pastors will have the option to continue disability coverage at their own expense when between assignments. Eligible interim pastors who are currently between assignments have until March 1, 2008 to apply for continuing disability benefits.
Please visit the web site for details about this new benefit option, including the application form: https://www.elcabop.org/ManageMyLifeChanges/Spec_interim_min.aspx .

You can be proud to be a member of the ELCA! Look at some of the ministries YOU make possible through your congregation, synod, and churchwide organization. When you hear the stories you will proudly say, "Wow, the ELCA is really doing a lot!" You have educated more than 500 pastors, doctors, health workers, teachers and agricultural workers in Lutheran churches around the globe. You have trained 77 leaders in Tanzania, 33 in Namibia, 31 in India, 28 in Madagascar, 25 in Ethiopia and 16 in Brazil. After these leaders study at ELCA colleges and seminaries, they return to their homelands to bring the Gospel to life. Find out more at www.elca.org .

"In God's Name" ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson is one of 12 "of the world's most influential religious leaders" featured in a Prime time two-hour television special event on CBS, December 23, 9-11 p.m. Eastern – "In God's Name." Produced by Jules and Gedeon Naudet, the diverse and powerful voices offer provocative, compelling and enlightening perspectives on myriad issues in our post-9/11 world, including the rise of terrorism, fanaticism, intolerance and war. One of several television specials related to the ELCA this year.

Advent is here! Do you have a calendar? It's not too late to download an Advent calendar from the Web. Have you seen the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance's AIDS calendar? Do you know about the Davey and Goliath Advent activities pages? "Grace Matters," the ELCA radio ministry, also offers an Advent calendar with brief readings. In addition to calendars, ELCA World Hunger offers Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany prayers and litanies, and the readings and prayers for each Sunday are in the Year A lectionary provided by ELCA Worship and Liturgical Resources.

I Am She: A Workbook for Discovering Your Bold This new resource will help you discover your bold and act upon it. It was first used at our Act Boldly events held in 2007 and is designed for either personal or group use. Encourage women in your congregation to download this workbook and see where they should be acting boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. Consider using it as a group in a retreat setting or over several Sunday mornings or weekday evenings.

This week on Grace Matters:  Waiting: Who's Waiting for Whom?

In this first of a four-part Advent series on WAITING, host Peter W. Marty explores how lousy we can be at waiting. Peter reminds us of an important key to growing our own patience in life – recognizing how much other people and God wait upon us.

Current and Upcoming ELCA Broadcasts:
