Lutheran Campus Ministry at NIU is doing fine, thanks in a great part to the prayers and material support given to LCM and NIU during the days since the tragedy. Please continue to pray for the NIU community, as the healing process will take weeks and months. In terms of physical and material support, the center does not, at this time, need food or paper products. Thank you to all who have contributed those things; our refrigerator, freezer and storage spaces are joyfully full. May Christ be with you all!
Pastor Diane Dardón, Lutheran Campus Ministry at NIU

It's time for rostered leaders to submit annual Report to the Bishop forms. Email the completed form to jlewis@nisynod.org and put “2008 Report to the Bishop” in the subject line. Before sending the Bishop a copy, be sure you save this form as a document on your own computer and keep a hard copy for your files. If you prefer to mail the completed form, send it to Bishop Gary M. Wollersheim, Northern Illinois Synod, 103 West State Street, Rockford, Illinois 61101. Please return your report NO LATER than March 1, 2008. If you have any questions, please contact Sandra Musch.

The Northern Illinois Synod Congregational Resourcing Event (CRE) will take place Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Kishwaukee Community College in Malta, Illinois. This year's theme is “God Said What??!! Getting Lutherans to Read the Bible.” The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ralph W. Klein, Christ Seminary-Seminex Professor of Old Testament and editor of Currents in Theology and Mission. Almost 50 other workshops will be presented during the three sessions. Bring many folks from your congregation, so you can get as much information as possible.

There are very few things that most individuals can do to save the Synod thousands of dollars, but this is one. If you are an eligible participant in the ELCA health plan and you haven't completed the Health Risk Assessment yet, please do it today. Not just to save money, but to make positive changes that will lead to a better, healthier life.

Carmen Richards – Stretched to the Limit Psalm 90:1-12 Have you ever felt over-committed, over-scheduled, over-ambitious, over-eager or over-programmed? Most of us have been there sometime in the last week, or the last year. We "try to do it all" and find that strategy to come up short. In this program, host Peter W. Marty speaks to the limits that God puts upon our lives, not as drawbacks or defects, but as reminders of our mortality and finitude. These limits also happen to afford us an opportunity to draw closer to God. His conversation partner is Carmen Richards, national president of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Continuing Education Opportunities

The Hein-Fry Lectures for 2008 will focus on the theme of the Lutheran Church’s relationship with other Christian communities throughout the world. From his unique experience, scholarship, and perspective, Dr. Lamin Sanneh will address what Lutherans have to offer world Christianities as well as what Lutherans can receive from these world Christianities. Dr. Sanneh will explore the role of Lutheran missions during the early imperial expansion into India and Africa and examine the role of Lutheran missions today in the midst of a post- Western indigenous awakening.  Rev. Dr. Winston Persaud, faculty member of Wartburg Theological Seminary, will present his response.  There is no charge for the lectures, but all planning to attend are asked to register through the Wartburg Seminary LifeLong Learners office.  There will be a buffet lunch available for the charge of $8.00 in the refectory. Wheat Ridge is also pleased to provide complimentary personal counsel from a seasoned professional as congregations are developing their proposals.”
