The NIS initiative for raising support for Lutheran Campus Ministry at NIU is called Growing our Loving Caring Mission. Thank you to the congregations and individuals who have already responded. Many have also shared uplifting stories of personal involvement in and with campus ministries at NIU or other schools. If you were impacted by campus ministry or have a story to tell, please email it here.  Each story helps grow our understanding of God's Loving Caring Mission on campuses.  

Trinity, Ottawa invites everyone to a special Christ the King Sunday (11/23)worship service at a 10:40 called "Jazz for the King." Led by Trinity's worship band, it will feature horn on such hymns as "When the Saints Go Marchin' In", "Soon and Very Soon", and more.  (815-434-0596). 

The Urban Ministry Conference scheduled for November 20-22 at Cliffbreakers has been canceled. A mini conference for those wishing to attend will be held Nov. 21, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford from 10 am-2 pm. More info.
 
The Stand By Me Retreat at LOMC, Nov. 21 & 22 has been canceled.
 
All Rostered Leaders are encouraged to attend an important financial planning seminar Tuesday, December 9, 2008, from 1-4 pm at Bethlehem, DeKalb. This is not a pre-retirement seminar. It is offered in response to the recent economic downturn. Find out more...

Coming up on Grace Matters  November 23, 2008, Phyllis Tickle - The Sayings of Jesus. Mark 1:40-45. After spending a life immersed in scholarship with Scripture, Phyllis Tickledetermined that faith and humility were often left behind among those who study the words of Jesus. She embarked on a thoughtful journey to analyze the different ways that Jesus of Nazareth typically spoke. Five different speaking roles for Jesus surfaced from her work. In this edition of Grace Matters, she discusses some of the interesting twists and turns that Jesus took with his words. .  Find Grace Matters in your area.

The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration will be held in 2009. A very special part of the celebration will be "The Ringing of the Bells." If your church has a bell, or if you wish to participate with bell ringers, ring in Lincoln's birthday at noon on Feb. 12, 2009. Bells are to be rung for two minutes to coincide with 200 years.
