Wholeness WheelHealth Assessment Goal for 2008 Reached!
The Board of Pensions has informed the NIS that it had 75% of its rostered leaders complete the Mayo Clinic on-line Health Assessment during 2008.  Bishop Wollersheim indicated that this makes the Synod one of only 7 synods attaining that goal during the past year.  It is his hope that the goal will be achieved much earlier this year.  Reaching that goal will trigger a 2% discount for all Synod congregations and institutions starting the month following its achievement.  It will also provide those leaders who have completed the assessment access to health dollars that can be used to reduce co-payments.
Use of the Mayo Clinic assessment tool and following the on-going recommendations will also enhance the health of the leaders in our Synod.  In so doing, they become examples for those receiving their ministry.  In addition to this on-line assessment, the Bishop's Task Force on Health and Wellness will continue providing opportunities for members of the Synod to explore other ways of leading healthier lives.

Energy Audits for your Congregations are available at no charge by trained synod members in each conference.  Contact George Davis, Facilities Director of Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center, 815-732-2220 or geodavis2@verizon.net. This program was put together with the Illinois EPA and the Northern Illinois Synod.

The Rev. Dr. Len Hoffmann, formerly senior pastor of Trinity, Rockford, is now called to the position of Associate Director for Gift Planning, ELCA Foundation. Pastor Hoffmann works with the congregations and members of the three ELCA synods in Illinois, including the Northern Illinois Synod. Contact Pastor Hoffmann for a congregational presentation or meet with him about making a personal plan for giving. 800-638-3522, ext. 2758 or len.hoffmann@elca.org.

imgComing up on Grace Matters:  March 8, 2009, Allan Tibbels - The Staying Power of Focus, Luke 21:19. Allan Tibbels does not have a particularly memorable job description title for the important work he does, so host Peter Marty gives him one - urban renewal enthusiast. Tibbels and his all-White family moved into a thoroughly African American neighborhood on Baltimore's west side. There he embarked with others on an ambitious effort to reverse the run-down image of "Sandtown," and to face the crime, poverty, and vacant housing problems head on. Tibbels literally rolled into Sandtown two decades ago on a wheelchair. His faith, courage, and resolve just keep on rolling....   Find Grace Matters in your area.
