Did you attend the Congregational Resourcing Event this past Saturday? Please take a quick online survey. If you missed it, an audio recording of the keynote address is available online.
2008 Health Assessment Goal Reached! Pr. Phil Blom, Regional Rep. for the ELCA Board of Pensions, presented Bishop Wollersheim with a gift to celebrate the fruit of our labors as the NIS had 75% of its rostered leaders complete the Mayo Clinic on-line Health Assessment during 2008. This makes us one of only 7 synods attaining that goal. It is Bishop's hope that the goal will be achieved much earlier this year. Reaching that goal will trigger a 2% discount for all Synod congregations and institutions starting the month following its achievement. It will also provide those leaders who have completed the assessment access to health dollars that can be used to reduce co-payments. AND - if we reach the 75% by March 29, the discount will be retroactive to all of 2009!
The Candidacy Committee of the Northern Illinois Synod has scheduled a retreat to aid in discerning a call to rostered ministry in the ELCA for October 24, 2009, to be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Rochelle, IL. The retreat will begin at 9:30 with coffee and conversation and will end by 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Please contact Judi Fields at the Synod office (815-964-9934 or jfields@nisynod.org ) to reserve a place or with any questions you might have. This retreat can be valuable in discerning God's call and understanding the process of candidacy. Spouses and significant others in your life are also a valuable support system during the candidacy process and are encouraged to attend the retreat with you.
The Rev. Denver W. Bitner, D.Min. will be installed as president/CEO of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois on Sunday, March 29, at 4 p.m. at Saint Luke Church, located at 1500 W. Belmont Avenue in Chicago. Bishops Warren Freiheit, Wayne Miller and Gary Wollersheim, representing the three Illinois Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), will preside at the Rite of Installation. The Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Echols, president of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, will preach at the event. A reception will follow the service.
The deadline for resolutions to be considered at this year's assembly is Monday, April 13. more information...
