The Candidacy Committee of the Northern Illinois Synod has scheduled a retreat to aid in discerning a call to rostered ministry in the ELCA for October 24, 2009, to be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Rochelle, IL. This retreat can be valuable in discerning God's call and understanding the process of candidacy. The retreat will begin at 9:30 with coffee and conversation and will end by 2:00 p.m.  Lunch will be provided. Please contact Judi Fields at the Synod office, 815-964-9934, to reserve a place or with any questions you might have.  Spouses and significant others in your life are also a valuable support system during the candidacy process and are encouraged to attend the retreat with you.

Are you or someone you know a retired military chaplain? Pr. Marcia Strahl is looking to put together a list of the retired military chaplains who are rostered in the Northern Illinois Synod Please contact Judi Fields in the Synod office at 815-964-9934.

Prayers, scripture readings and hymns are posted athttp://www.ELCA.org/50days .

One in every seven people in the world lives on less than $1 a day. One billion of God's children lack access to clean, safe drinking water. And one in every 10 Americans experiences hunger or the risk of hunger. ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Appeal invites you to Change the World: 2009 Lutheran Youth Challenge which unites the voices, offerings, and hopes of thousands of young Lutherans across the United States to raise $1 million to help end hunger and poverty. Visitwww.elca.org/youthchallenge for fund-raising ideas, resources, and information for your congregation and synod. Order free copies of the brochure through Augsburg Fortress (order code: ITEM000920). P.S. Are you headed to the ELCA Youth Gathering in July? Bring your offering to Jackson Square in the center of the interaction center and watch it grow with thousands of other offerings from groups across the country.
