Welcome home Randy, Carol, Megan, Marissa, and Nathan Stubbs - ELCA Missionaries to our companion synod, the Arusha Diocese in Tanzania ( photo above - back row l-r: Megan, Randy & Carol Stubbs, Michael & Kelan Graddy; front row l-r: Nathan Stubbs, Merrick Graddy, Marissa Stubbs, & Malena Graddy). The Stubbs left DeKalb 3 years ago to serve at the Makumira University College (formerly Makumira Lutheran Theological Seminary). They are in the US through September visiting many congregations that support ELCA missionaries and getting a reminder of life in the US. Read more about their mission at www.stubbsmission.info

Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson has called each of us to 50 days of prayer leading up to the churchwide Assembly which begins Aug. 17. This church is invited to pray for wisdom in discernment for the ELCA and voting members of the 2009 Churchwide Assembly. Foods Resource Bank will explore sustainable solutions to world hunger and lessons learned in agricultural development at its annual international gathering in the Quad Cities August 4-6. Roger Thurow, longtime correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and co-author of Enough: Why the World's Poorest Starve in an Age of Plenty, will be the keynote speaker, This 10th anniversary gathering is a networking and learning opportunity for growing project participants, as well for as others interested in agricultural development, and is open to the public.
