"ASK, THANK, TELL" Stewardship Ministry Workshop. Congregational stewardship leaders are invited to an exciting resource opportunity for stewardship ministry in the congregation. Pastor Charles Lane, Director of the ELCA Stewardship Key Leader Program, and the author of a book on congregational stewardship ministry will conduct a workshop on basic principles of congregational stewardship. Thursday, October 29, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  *Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Faith, Rochelle Cost is $12 for lunch. The Northern Illinois Synod Candidacy committee is offering a retreat to aid in discerning a call to rostered ministry in the ELCA.  Time spent includes fellowship, worship, presentations on the candidacy process by committee members, a Bishop's hour, and small group sharing and discussion. The retreat will be 10-2pm on Saturday October 24 at Faith Lutheran Church, 14206 Flagg Ctr. Rd., Rochelle, IL, 815-562-7575.  Registration deadline is Friday October 2, 2009. Contact Judi Fields at the Synod Office, 815-964-9934, or jfields@nisynod.org as soon as possible. 

 
Walking TogetherA block of 20 rooms for the NIS Professional Leaders Conference have been set aside at the Radisson Hotel, 220 South Bell School Rd., Rockford, 815-226-2100.  The block of rooms are held for September 28 & 29 with check out on September 30 at a rate of $99.00 per night.  PLC participants should call the Radisson before September 14, 2009, and say they are with the Northern Illinois Synod to get the special rate.  The block of rooms will be held until September 14, 2009.  After that the hotel cannot guarantee availability. Travel time from the Radisson Hotel to Bishop Lane Retreat Center is approximately 20 - 25 minutes.Be sure to register ASAP for the conference at Bishop Lane Retreat Center in Rockford. Presenters will be Richard H. Bliese and David Cherwein. Genesis Bookstore will be on site, but will be unable to take credit cards - please bring cash or checks. www.nisynod.org/plc

Peterson Center in our two half-day format on Thursday, Sept. 17th, 9-noon, and Thursday, September 24th, 1-4. Everything necessary to create, sustain and grow a congregational lay caregiving program will be available.
