The Northern Illinois Synod Women will award a $2000 scholarship for an NIS young woman to travel to India with a delegation from NIS in January 2010. Download an application from the Synod website. Application Deadline is October 1, 2009.
The NIS Outreach Committee invites congregations apply for outreach project grants for up to $1,000 for 2010. They are intended to help congregations reach out to their communities through evangelism and invitation. Applications must be returned by November 15. Contact Pr. Kurt Nordby for more information.
The NIS Global Mission Committee invites all current and prospective companion congregations in the Northern Illinois Synod to One in Mission: Companion Parish Program Event, Saturday, October 24, 2009, 9 am-1 pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, DeKalb. The First Lutheran Church in Rockford and the First Lutheran Church of Moline will each host a "Concert of Caring" performed by Elisabeth von Trapp, granddaughter of the legendary Maria and Baron von Trapp, on Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23, respectively. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. The concerts are two of five being hosted around the state to benefit Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) programs in the community, including services for children, families and seniors.
