Pr. Jim Olsen recovering from two small strokes. He is now at home and doing well.
   
Matt Wollersheim, son of Bishop & Polly, as he recovers from his third nasal polyp surgery. Pray for recovery and that this may be the last time surgery is needed.

OrdinationCome celebrate the beginning of lives of rostered ministry for members of our Northern Illinois Synod! Plan to attend the Synod-wide Ordination Service Sunday, November 1 at 4 pm at First, Rockford (225 S 3rd St). All are invited! Rostered leaders and interns are invited to vest and process. Color of the day is red.
   
All those considering a call to rostered ministry in the ELCA are invited to a Candidacy Retreat from 10-2pm on 10/24 at Faith, Rochelle. Contact Judi Fields at the Synod Office as soon as possible.
    
One in Mission: Companion Parish Program Event, Saturday, October 24, 2009, 9 am-1 pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, DeKalb. More info...  Cost is $8 per person. Please register by October 21 to Pr. Gary Erickson, 815-758-3203.

This Friday, October 16, is World Food Day.  According to the FAO, the objectives of World Food Day are to: 1) encourage attention to agricultural food production and to stimulate national, bilateral, multilateral and non-governmental efforts to this end; 2) encourage economic and technical cooperation among developing countries; 3) encourage the participation of rural people, particularly women and the least privileged categories, in decisions and activities influencing their living conditions; 4) heighten public awareness of the problem of hunger in the world; promote the transfer of technologies to the developing world; and 5) strengthen international and national solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty and draw attention to achievements in food and agricultural development. Walking Together'Ready to Forgive' to Broadcast on ABC
Beginning Oct. 18 through December 2009, ABC Television affiliate stations will have available to them "Ready to Forgive: An African Story of Grace," hosted by Rwandan genocide survivor, Immaculée Ilibigaza. Walking TogetherLutheran World Relief (LWR) received a $1.49 million grant from USAID to extend the reach of malaria control in Mali. LWR aspires to reach 480,000 people who are at risk, particularly pregnant women and children under 5. Malaria is a preventable, treatable disease that kills more than one million people a year. Care in Communities Fundraiser to "Support Carroll County Veterans"  Friday, November 6, 2009, 6-9 pm, Mt. Carroll Church of God(Junction of Rts. 64/52 & 78), Those attending are asked to bring a salad or dessert for the potluck meal and Mike Schaffer will provide the fish fry as the entrée. Michael Orban, author of the book, Souled Out-A Memoir of War and Inner Peace will speak.  Musical entertainment provided by The Mississippi Man.
All monies raised will go to help the veterans of Carroll County who are in need. Thrivent will supplement funds raised on a 3:1 basis.

LOMC is participating in the "Make My Non-Profit Run Better" contest for a chance to win an office technology makeover from RK Dixon.  The winning organization will receive new equipment and services valued at $20,000.  The second prize is $10,000 and third prize is $5,000. How can you help? For once, not by donating money, but by voting. The organization with the most votes will be selected as a top five finalist.
