NIS News

Everyone is invited to attend a special synod-wide service this Sunday, April 11, 4 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottawa. The synod will gather for the ordination of Jamie Wallace (Immanuel, Compton) and Brenda Lovick (Trinity, Manlius). All rostered leaders and interns are invited to vest and process.  The color of the day is red.

Share the wealth! Walking Together gives you a wealth of knowledge every week about our synod and our ELCA. Everyone in NIS congregations should be on the list. How can you help get more to sign up? Send email addresses of committee members, Sunday School teachers, etc.  Make an announcement during worship and post a sign-up sheet in your narthex. Forward this email to friends and encourage them to sign up (there's a handy dandy "Forward" link at the bottom of this email). What other ideas do you have?

NI Synod Spiritual Retreat for Rostered leaders, Transformative Power of Dreams, with facilitator Sister Mary Ellen (Mel) Riley, will be May 17 at LOMC. Cost is $18 or $56 for day-retreat with Sunday night lodging. Register by May 10 with Nancy Corey.

Take it nowApril 30 is the final deadline for congregations and organizations in the NIS to get a 2% discount on ELCA primary health care coverage. Have you taken the health assessment? The NIS only needs 52 more people to take it. Spouses count! You'll even earn $150 wellness dollars just for taking the assessment with a possible $300 more for follow-up activities! Please do it now!

Retired rostered leaders: please RSVP for one of the retired leaders luncheons.

All are invited to the 2010 diakonia graduation at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Schaumburg, Saturday, May 22 at 2pm. Graduates and clergy are invited to vest and process (the color is red).

The Lutheran'The Great Surprise': It's Easter, more than ever (image at right).
Resurrected: ... as this congregation focuses on 3 Rs: Respond, Return, Rejoice.
An Easter service that really was.
The way we were: 1951.
Also: A letter to the ELCA: Certainty.
Also: A question for every Easter.
Also: Selection of harsh letters not helpful.
