WTThe Northern Illinois Synod diakonia committee invites you to consider enrolling in a transformational program of lay theological education this fall.  Diakonia is a two-year program of faith formation which equips Christians to live out their baptismal calling as servants of Christ.  It is an education of the heart and the mind that begins with the announcement that God desires to have a personal relationship with us, not based on anything we can or cannot do, but simply on God's love for us as we are.  Classes will be taught this fall in Cary, Moline, Peru, Rockford, and Sterling.  For more information, go to www.nisynod.org/diakonia or contact Denise Rode, NIS diakonia chairperson, at 815-756-8321.

The Northern lllinois Synod Women of the ELCA 22nd Annual Convention will be September 18 at First Lutheran Church, DeKalb. The theme will be "Act Boldly-Seek and Support Equal Justice." Voting members of a convention shall be the elected board members of the Synodical women's organization and one delegate for each unit on the roll of this Synodical women's organization. Note: Voting delegate's duties include attending the business session of the convention. Voting delegates registration deadline is August 15. Participant registration deadline is September 1. Find registration, scholarship, and nomination forms here.

CORRECTION: Please note the following error in the July/August issue of Making Christ Known. The list of 2011 Churchwide Assembly Voting Members on page 2 should include Mr. Bill Nelson, not Rev. Bill Nelson. We regret the error. The corrected Making Christ Known is now online.

How far do you have to go for clean water? How long does it take? For 1.2 billion people, clean and affordable water is scarce. LWR's Fill the Well campaign is helping to change that. Take 3 minutes to watch our Fill the Well video and see what an impact you can make.

Fast Facts  In 2008 and 2009, G20 countries mobilized $18 trillion to bail out the banking and financial system.  The G8 countries - a subset of the G20 - are $18 billion short of their 2005 Gleneagles commitment to double aid to sub-Saharan Africa by 2010.
