To the rostered leaders of the Northern Illinois Synod:
In a recent letter I extended an invitation for you to attend a Money Leadership for Rostered Leaders retreat. The brochure can be accessed by clicking on the link.
Here is some additional information, which may help you in your decision to participate. The desired outcomes for participants include:
Engage in open conversation and self-assessment of their feelings, knowledge, experiences, and practices related to money.
Increase literacy and emotional comfort with financial issues.
Explore the dynamics of money and financial issues around the roles of discipleship and leadership within the congregational system.
Encourage attitudes and behaviors to achieve personal and congregational financial goals.
Develop a personal action plan to address financial issues.
Prepare leaders to be living examples and coaches of healthy financial stewardship within the congregation and beyond.
The basic design of Money Leadership for Rostered Leaders focuses on seven areas:
Giving
Saving
Spending
Debt Reduction
Financial Life Planning
Money Leadership in the Congregation
Money Leadership in Congregation Family Systems
The content for each area includes a brief presentation, conversation starters and specific resources.
There will be just a little pre-work for participants to complete and bring to the retreat. Spouses are welcome and encouraged to come.
The cost is $100 for participants and $75 for spouses. Registrations are due in the synod office by September 16. The retreat will be from noon on October 6 through lunch on the 7th. If you have additional questions, please contact me.
There are resources available for congregational
treasurers and bookkeepers. Should we count the offering
at church? Do we have to have two people count the
money? Should the pastor sign checks? How often should
we conduct an audit? Answers to practical questions such
as these may be found in an ELCA guide at http://www.elca.org/treasurer/congregations
