January 3, 2007
Dear Friends in Christ, Our colleague Sandy Musch, Assistant to the Bishop, will begin a three month sabbatical on January 15, 2007. This is a benefit granted by the Synod to full time professional Synod Staff members after six years of service. Sandy has been on synod staff for 20 years, so the sabbatical is long over due. We are all excited and grateful for this much deserved opportunity for Sandy. I advocate sabbatical leaves for all professional leaders in our synod. This is a part of the recommended Synod Compensation Guidelines adopted by the Synod Assembly each year. Church work is a privilege but it can also be challenging and difficult. Very few vocations are on call 24/7, work on Christmas and Easter, and are involved in responding to all kinds of life crises. Sabbaticals allow for rest and renewal which is good for both the congregation and the professional leader. Sandy will be spending her sabbatical time resting, reading, traveling, reflecting and praying. This will be good for both her and the synod. During Sandy’s absence, Pastor Dell Olson will be picking up her responsibilities in the Northwest Conference and various support staff members will be handling Sandy’s administrative tasks. Please don’t hesitate to ask me for assistance or any other staff member while Sandy is away. Thank you for your faithfulness. May 2007 be a year of shalom. In Christ, Bishop Gary Wollersheim |
