Keynote speaker is
Steve Bouman,
executive director of
ELCA Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission (EOCM)
Rev. Dr. Bouman previously served as bishop of the
Metropolitan New York Synod for almost twelve years, during
the time when the attacks of 9/11 took place. He is a graduate
of Concordia Theological Seminary/Seminex, and holds the
Doctor of Ministry degree from New York Theological Seminary.
Since 1973, Pastor Bouman has served parishes in Queens,
Jackson Heights, and Bogota, New Jersey. He founded the
Diakonia program, which trains lay people for ministry in local
congregations. His parish ministry has included multicultural
outreach, parochial school establishment, and ministries of
assistance and advocacy among the poor. He also served as
Chair of the ELCA Board of The Division for Higher Education
and Schools.
Pastor Bouman is a published author whose most recent
book is Grace All Around Us: Embracing God’s Promise in
Tragedy and Loss. He and his wife Janet have three grown
children.
